Description

Recycling is an important step in helping to prevent pollution, conserve natural resources, and to reduce climate change. At SUTD, we have observed that students tend to throw their projects away when the term ends, and buy new materials in the following terms’ projects. This contributes greatly to the amount of waste generated.

With UpSUTD, our Android application, we aim to change this by providing a platform that enables students to list materials that they do not require for others to use, or simply as an information hub where they’ll be alerted to where and what they can recycle in projects.

UpSUTD provides a fuss-free experience compared to traditional online marketplaces by doing away with chat and having a Q&A section in the listing instead. Then, to get the item, the interested student can request it by keying in the meetup location and time, which the seller can accept or reject. Advanced sorting algorithms when searching for listings help improve the user experience and save time, helping to improve the retention rate of students too.
