Project PAL is a groundbreaking generative AI-based dating simulator designed as an Android application. Its goal is to serve as a bridge for hikikomori (shut-ins) to reengage with society. What distinguishes this app from other dating simulators is its open-ended narrative structure, allowing users to control the storyline and practice everyday conversations in a natural and flexible way.
Using advanced generative AI models like Stable Diffusion and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Project PAL creates an immersive experience where the storyline and visual interactions with NPCs (non-player characters) change dynamically based on the player’s responses. This capability enables players to navigate through different emotional scenarios, providing a rich and varied gameplay experience.
The application’s ability to generate custom NPC emotions and adaptive responses to player input is key to helping shut-ins build social skills and regain the confidence to interact with others. By engaging with the app, users can practice communication, develop social competence, and gradually find the courage to step out into the world and reconnect with society.
