Description
OpenDot is an innovative community-based rating and reviewing app that aims to boost Singapore’s tourism and aid small businesses by introducing locals and tourists to a greater variety of attractions. The app provides a platform for users to discover and rate local businesses with a focus on restaurants and locations. Its intuitive UI allows users to swipe left or right based on their interests, making it easy to discover hidden gems around Singapore. Additionally, users can leave reviews on locations, add new locations, and view other users’ ratings and reviews on a particular place.
The app’s backend was designed using Google Firebase and Android Studio (Java) as the development platform. The system design and implementation involved several key steps, including database design, user authentication, and integration with Google Maps APIs. The app was designed to be scalable, flexible, and maintainable, using various design patterns to accelerate the design process while creating maintainable and flexible code.
Overall, OpenDot is a powerful and innovative app that connects the dots between locals, tourists, and local businesses. It provides a platform for users to discover new places and share their experiences with others, supporting the development of stronger communities and fostering a sense of discovery and excitement.
